JDRS was asked to produce a recording in Brandon, Manitoba on Feb. 20 for a documentary on composer/educator Patrick Carrabre. The six part piece, called “Crazy” was written by Carrabre and performed by Naomi Forman, soprano, Mary Jo Carrabre, piano, and Patrick Carrabre, electronics.

The  7 camera shoot will produce a video that will be part of a documentary on Carrabre being produced by Graham Street of Street Media. Working with me on the project’s audio was recording engineer, Scott Howarth. The documentary will be available on MTS’s “Stories from Home” series for MTS cable subscribers for a period of 6 months after the release.

After that, the video will be available on the YouTube channel and the Institute for Research on Music and Community website, www.irmc.ca . This is the Institute for Research on Music and Community at Brandon University. It is part of the “Omnivorous Listeners” research project, which also has a blog that will be starting soon. In Carrabre’s words, “it is basically about people’s experience listening across stylistic and genre boundaries.”

The audio recording of the Brandon performance will also be released separately at a later date. Details to follow.
